Challenge
Profound needed an experts directory: a public-facing destination where potential customers could discover and connect with vetted agencies who have driven demonstrable results for Profound customers in the past. Profound is a design-forward company with a high quality bar for how their product looks and feels, and they were looking for a solution flexible enough to support their own creative vision.
"I knew as an engineer that PartnerPage was going to work for us," said Ruy Monteiro, Profound's Design Engineer. The question was whether a third-party platform could give the team the backend infrastructure they needed - partner profiles, self-serve listings, content management - while staying completely out of the way on the front end.
Building the whole thing in-house was on the table, but it would’ve taken months of engineering time, and long-term ownership of every update, every new partner, and every content change.
Solution
Profound was recommended to PartnerPage by the team at Clay. They didn't just want to replicate their implementation - they wanted to go further, with a fully headless deployment leveraging PartnerPage's API.
Ruy built the entire front end in Next.js, pulling partner data from PartnerPage's API and rendering it entirely within Profound's own design system. PartnerPage served purely as the backend - handling self-managed partner profiles and content - while Profound retained complete control over every pixel of the experience their users would see.
The result is a directory that looks and feels entirely like Profound, built in a fraction of the time it would have taken to build from scratch. For Profound, it was the best of both worlds: the operational infrastructure of a mature platform, with none of the creative constraints that typically come with it.
Results
Profound shipped a live, production-ready partner directory in approximately one to two days of active development once the API integration was underway.
The directory launched with full design fidelity that matched Profound's custom visual system with no compromises. Partners self-manage their own listings through PartnerPage's backend. Profile details like name and website carry over automatically for partners already listed in other PartnerPage directories, making onboarding frictionless.
Profound's deployment also marked a milestone for PartnerPage - the first fully headless implementation of a platform built API-first from day one.
Key outcomes:
Launched in ~1-2 days of active development
Full design fidelity - the directory looks and feels entirely like Profound, with no visual compromises
Partners self-manage their own listings; Profound owns the entire front-end experience
