The Challenge
Zapier's AI automation platform connects 9,000+ apps, but many customers need hands-on help building complex workflows. By 2020, Zapier had an informal network of consultants and agencies who helped customers, but no scalable way to connect them.
"Customers would email support asking for implementation help, and we'd manually suggest a few consultants we knew," says Alina Vetter, Partner Operations Manager. "It was impossible to scale. We had no visibility into partner capacity, specializations, or track record. And our best partners were invisible to the customers who needed them most".
The challenge was twofold: customers couldn't find qualified help, and partners couldn't get discovered. Zapier was leaving value on the table for both sides.
The Solution
Zapier launched the Solution Partner Directory in 2021 - a searchable marketplace built on PartnerPage where customers can discover, evaluate, and contact solution partners to help with AI automation.
The directory introduced several key features:
Tiered partner designations. Platinum-level partners (the most experienced and highest-rated) get premium placement. This created a visible career path for partners and gave customers confidence in quality.
Rich partner profiles. Each partner manages their own profile with services offered, industries served, tools expertise, pricing tiers, and availability status. Customers can filter by budget, project type, language, and region.
Built-in reviews. Customers rate partners after engagements. With 3,000+ reviews now in the system, social proof drives quality - partners invest in customer success because ratings are visible.
Concierge matching. For customers who don't want to browse, Zapier's team offers a "Get Matched" service that pairs them with the right partner based on project requirements.
Implementation took less than two weeks, with partner profile migration happening in waves as partners claimed and customized their listings.
The Results
Solution Partner discovery became self-service
Before launching the directory, customers relied on Zapier’s team to connect them with Solution Partners, creating a manual, support-driven process that was impossible to scale as demand grew. The introduction of a self-service directory shifted this dynamic, enabling customers to find and engage the right partners on their own.
"The directory fundamentally changed how customers get help", notes Alina. "Instead of waiting for us to make introductions, they browse profiles, read reviews, and reach out same-day. It's a better experience for everyone".
Partners control their own destiny
92% of partners actively manage their profiles, updating services, adding case studies, and responding to reviews. Partners update their profiles an average of 3 times per quarter.
"Our partners love the visibility," says Alina. "They can showcase their Zapier expertise, collect reviews in one place, and get discovered by customers who are already qualified - they've decided they need help and are ready to buy".
Quality improved through transparency
The average partner rating is 4.9 stars across 3,000+ reviews. Partners with lower ratings either improve or naturally fall in visibility. Top-rated partners report that their Zapier profile consistently generates a significant amount of their new business.
The program scaled without adding headcount
The partner network grew from 40 consultants at launch to 400+ Solution Partners across 30+ countries, without proportional growth in Zapier's partner team.
